Last month in Korea, part II

Image
Greetings from Finland! I returned to Joensuu in the beginning of January, and have already started my classes (well, one class so far) here in my home university. It's a little colder than it was in Korea, and there definitely is more snow! So, back to Korea for a moment... Here are some pics from the week we spent in Seoul and Busan. After this, we went to Gyeongju, and did some hiking. There will be a follow-up post for that, too many pics for one post! :D Gals heading to town, our first night in Seoul. Went to Itaewon, veeeery crowded. While walking back to our hotel from Itaewon, I saw another mini-snowman! Maybe not as cute as the previous couple, but hey, it's trying so hard with it's mandarine hat! The next day was spent mainly hunting Pokemon and going to the movies! The theater in Yongsan Station was huge, and they had some familiar characters waiting for us. Noora did not succeed very well in her match with the Cap. Her strengths clearly lie in

Last month in Korea, part I

It's been a busy December. Among other things, it has included studying, final exams, and family members visiting. Here are some highlights from the first two weeks of December. This is my last month here in Korea (while writing this, I only have 6 nights left). It has been great, but I'm also ready to head back home! I was really looking forward to Noora and Mirja coming to visit me, and they did not disappoint. Along with themselves (the most important bit) they brought me some winter clothes, Finnish rye-bread, chocolate, and salmiakki! We spent the first two days in and around Suwon and Seoul. After that, they went off for their own travels in Jeju Island, while I stayed at the university for my classes. Roaming around campus, would be interesting to know what's inside! I caught a pretty bad cold a week before my visitors arrived, but luckily there was a free infirmary on campus. I got some (a lot of) medicine, packed into handy servings. Plus some cough syru

Uh oh, almost a month has passed since my last post. Sorry home peeps! Autumn and winter have arrived in Korea, finally. I couldn't stand the +30 degrees (Celsius) we had here in the beginning of my exchange semester, the weather now is much more to my liking. The temperature varies between -5 and +5 and we have the occasional rainy day. Yesterday we actually got some snow, which surprised me! I thought Korea only gets snow on the mountains, so I have to admit I'm not completely prepared. I.e. I don't have shoes for snowy weather with me. :D Luckily I have some guests coming over from Finland in a few weeks, so I can request a delivery of winter accessories if needed. Otherwise November has included mainly studying and general strolling about. Mostly because I spent an arm and a leg to get a tattoo earlier this month. I booked the appointment while still in Finland, and it turned out great! I wanted to get a permanent souvenir for my time here. Also, it's super easy

A nice mural next to the nearest 7/11. There has been so much going on in the past month or so, that I'll just post some photos to highlight some lovely things. There has been socializing, sightseeing and just basic hanging around. As I mentioned in the previous post, the weather is finally starting to be comfortable. I started playing Pokemon Go yesterday (long time coming, that one), and now the temperature actually allows me to take my Bulbasaur for walks. Oh, and in case someone (mooom) is interested in my studies, I had my first exam this week and I think it went well. ;D Other studies are going well enough too. A Korean specialty, double chocolate fries from McDonald's. They were not mine, but I tried one and did not like it. :D Katharina and me in LP bar, my favourite bar here. They have a wall full of vinyl records and you can request songs! More frog eggs... A.k.a. basil seed litchi drink. It was nice! Our dormitory corridor. On a rainy day th
